Outreach and Volunteering

OUTREACH

God calls us to love our neighbors, and we live out this call by walking with our neighbors, both near and far to deepen our faith, support our community and build a world in the image of God’s Kingdom on Earth. Outreach takes many forms at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection — from Mission of the Month support to partnership with the elementary school down the street and food support in our community, we live our call to love our neighbors every day. If you would like to get involved in Outreach, there is a place for you!

Mission of the Month

Each month we celebrate an organization serving our local or global community. Click on an image below for more information about these wonderful organizations.

If you would like to make a financial donation to the Mission of the Month — click here — for all the ways to give. Please note “Monthly Mission” on your donation.

Community Volunteering and outreach Activities

As faithful members of our community, there are many ways to get involved. Whether you enjoy baking cookies, supporting students, delivering meals to the elderly or serving a community meal, there is a place for you!

Every Meal

Every Meal provides weekend food pack for students. LCR partners with Emmet D. William Elementary School and helps to pack food into backpacks on Fridays. If you’d like to help pack, click here to signup.

Loaves and Fishes

On the first Monday of every month, we serve a meal, together with Roseville Lutheran Church, at the Dorothy Day Center in St. Paul. Volunteers are welcome to serve meals and/or to bake cookies earlier in the day. If you would like to volunteer, click here.

Volunteering at Emmet D. Williams Elementary School

Get involved with our local elementary school — everything from helping a teacher to reading with students. If you would like to volunteer, email the church office for more info.

Meals on Wheels

Help deliver meals to elderly residents in the area. If you’d like to help with this program, click here.

Habitat for Humanity

Pick up your hammer and help build a house! All skills and abilities welcome! Every year we have a workday with Twin Cities Holy Hammers and volunteers are needed.

* Watch for announcements in early Spring for more info on how to participate.

Summer Coffee Bar

Join us for a special monthly summer coffee bar for delicious treats after worship! Donations will support a newly selected nonprofit each year. In 2023, $2,425 was raised for RIP Medical Debt. For every dollar donated, RIP Medical Debt is able to purchase and forgive $100.00 of medical debt which means, through our efforts, $242,500 of debt will be forgiven.

Plant Sale

Every Spring you can order beautiful flowering pots, hanging baskets, annuals and perennials, and more AND help a worthy cause at the same time.

* Information for the sale will be available every year beginning in early Spring

Connecting with our neighbors

Weekly drop in sessions are offered during the daytime for various activities. Learn to play the ukulele, play games, learn woodcarving, help EDW teachers with projects or come teach your own craft.

Partnering with Lutheran Social Services

We partner with LSS on local and global issues, and have had a close relationship with the LSS residential homes, which were started by our congregation in the 1960s

Gardening

Check out our summer garden on the south side of the building! Produce is donated to Every Meal and other community needs.

* We can always use help maintaining the garden. If you’d like to help water, weed and/or harvest — click here

Quilters

Quilters meet weekly to make quilts for Lutheran Social Services (LSS). They donate around 50 quilts annually to support our global neighbors through LSS.

Care of Creation

We are committed to caring for God’s Kingdom on earth. We use all compostable, recyclable or reusable materials and engage in other creation care activities throughout the year.

We’d love your help! If you’d like to get involved with any of the activities above — click here

Our Global Mission Partner

Santa Amelia in Guatemala

Through the St. Paul Area Synod, we are connected to a partner congregation in Santa Amelia Guatemala. This covenant relationship, in partnership with Como Park Lutheran Church in St. Paul, is committed to authentic and mutually transformative support based on prayer, projects and presence.

We pray for our partner congregation weekly, support development projects when possible, and travel to Guatemala for a week-long visit every other year.
