Youth & Learning

Youth & learning

Our youth are at the heart of our congregation! They join us in every part of our journey— worshiping together, praying for one another, sharing meals, and so much more. As they grow, they step into leadership, lighting the way as acolytes, guiding us as ushers, proclaiming the Word as lectors, and lifting our spirits through music. Our youth inspire the younger ones through fun-filled events like late-overs, Wednesday night games, Vacation Bible School, and the joyful celebrations of Easter morning. Together, we grow in faith, serve with love, and rejoice as one family in Christ!

Youth Activities

Youth are involved in every aspect of the life of our congregation. Scroll down for all ways to get involved.

Sunday School

SUNDAYS AT 10:30 AM — Sunday school meets for children and youth ages two through middle school. September through May.

Children ages two through five meet to hear a Bible story, sing songs, learn fingerplays, and much more. Elementary students learn through the rotation model of learning, whereby a single Bible story is studied for 4 weeks through different workshops:  art, music, games, food, science, and video.

Middle school students meet and discuss various topics of interest. They talk and wonder, get to know each other, and think about their faith in the world. They are included in other activities, including some hands-on mission work.

All children and youth are welcome! Click here to receive more information.

Youth Group

Join us on Sunday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 PM for a vibrant youth group experience designed for high school students! Enjoy dinner, fun activities, engaging discussions, and more. The group also attends the ELCA National Youth Gathering. For more info, click here.

Confirmation

Confirmation is the ritual where a previously baptized individual affirms their baptism, becoming an adult member of the congregation and committing to participate in God's work within the church and world.

To support thoughtful spiritual development, LCR confirmation classes extend over three years, typically grades 7-9, with students confirmed in 9th or 10th grade. The classes, which focus on gaining a deeper understanding of the Bible and church practices, meet in clusters throughout the school year, including a spring retreat and participation in Advent and Lent services, culminating in Confirmation on Pentecost Sunday. Additionally, younger children engage in early sessions, with third and fourth graders focusing on the Bible and Ten Commandments, and fifth and sixth graders on the Lord's Prayer and Communion, laying the foundation for deeper learning in later years.

Contact Pastor Sarah with any questions regarding confirmation or to sign up (click here to email).

Summer Activities for Youth

Stay connected to our church community through the summer months!

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection is unlike any other! While we enjoy all the beloved activities—arts and crafts, outdoor recreation, treats, Bible stories, and music—our VBS is made truly special through a one-of-a-kind musical experience. Throughout the week, children learn the songs and lines of a musical that brings a Bible story to life.

Our middle and high school students serve as counselors, guiding the children through the days, playing games, singing alongside them, and leading with Christ-like hearts. Volunteers joyfully create sets and costumes, and on Thursday night, the Resurrection pit orchestra joins together for a grand performance that brings the week’s story to life in a powerful way. It’s a week where faith, creativity, and community come together to glorify God!

Camp Wapo

Youth in grades 3 through high school are invited to attend camp at Lake Wapogasset Lutheran Bible Camp in Remer, WI each summer. StudWAPOents entering grades 3 and 4 have a weekend option called "SEEDS", which gives younger kids a good taste of the camp experience. Youth entering grade 5 and up are given the option to attend a week of camp onsite. Fundraising throughout the year helps to defray the costs of camp.

Lutheran Summer Music

Lutheran Summer Music (LSM) is the nation’s premier faith-based music academy for high school students. In addition to advanced musical instruction and numerous performance opportunities, LSM students form an intentional community, living together for four weeks on a Lutheran college campus. Since 1981, this unique and immersive program has guided the lives of thousands of young musicians, many of whom credit LSM as the starting place for their future careers and vocations.
